The Best Guests

We have the best guests in the world.  I don't know how we are so lucky......but our clientele is just super. We have so many "repeats" now, that it is like having one big, extended family! We had some new guests stay with us this week, because their GPS sent them down the wrong peninsula!  And, they loved it here, and we loved them as well!  Sometimes I think the Inn puts off some kind of vibe that attracts these wonderful folks. Laura has said that if a "not so desirable person" (not her exact words, but you get the idea) Googles the Log Cabin it comes up "Page not found". I think she is right! Anyhow, we sure do appreciate and enjoy our folks.
Perhaps that is one reason I love to come to work every day. Of course, our crew is pretty spectacular as well! Matt, Aimee, Alicia, Laura and soon to be Shelby, are a treat to be around. It really is a privilege to have a "job" that you thoroughly like. So, I say a huge Thank You to all of our guests, and our special crew. I am one lucky lady to be able to spend time with all of you! Gear Grab Day

In Celebration of Earth Day today in Harpswell we have "Gear Grab Day". This is a day when along with the Road Side clean up we also do a Beach Clean Up. This is one of the few days that you can actually handle other peoples lobster traps and gear. All gear is tagged with the owners special number that is specific to them. If any lobster traps or buoys were found in good shape they could be stacked in a specific pile and the owners would be notified. The other gear that is not usable will be taken for recycling. Terrence,my nieces's and myself headed to Land's End here on Bailey Island. With gloves and many trash bags in hand we started the morning. I must say if you have to smoke can you please take your cigarette buts with you. We filled 4 trash bags and left a pile of gear to be picked up. We then went to the Giant Stair Case Trail where there was far less trash. I don't think many people have been on the trail over the Winter. We loaded all our trash and headed to the final destination at the Dolphin Marina. At the Marina they had a big Construction Dumpster ready and waiting. They also served a nice lunch for all the volunteers. They had a raflle and I am happy to say Terrence won 6 lobsters!!! They will be ready to redeem this Summer. If he had his way he would eat all of them. I had a great Winter in Florida and worked just as hard as I do here. With a child in school all day there seems like no excuse when asked to work. It just meant less time at the pool but people still say I have a tan. I guess compared to staying here all winter I do. Obviously I am back to work and loving the Inn and our regular guests that have already returned for another season. I am in the Kitchen Cooking tonight, my favorite filet mignon with lobster tail. I also made some homemade Blackberry Ice Cream which I think would taste quite yummy on a brownie with fudge sauce. We still have some dates open, so give a call and you too
could try this yummy dessert. In Good Health...Alicia

Summer weather in April

Who would have thought that it would be "sit on your porch" weather in April??? Usually, we have a bit of time to clean up the furniture and wash the screens.....but they are saying close to 80 degrees on Monday! So, Matt and Jim rounded up the furniture and cleaned it all up. You don't realize how much there is 'til you put it all in one place.....took all day to complete that job!
We are starting our second week, and people are out and about. I think the weather is encouraging more folks to venture to the shore early this year. Alicia is back from Florida, and is starting back to work today. Hopefully, I can persuade her to do the blog every other week now. And, of course, we have to persuade her to make her yummy homemade ice cream!
Well, I must order some new items for the gift shop. And, with this weather, maybe I will start to plant some gardens this week! All for now, Sue

Open for our 32nd year!

It is a nice, sunny day here on Bailey Island!
I came home from my 4th trip to the grocery store, and these beautiful flowers had arrived....from my dearest friend Deb and her family! They are coming to stay this week, and having a lobster feast!
Even the johnny-jump-ups decided to bloom in the parking lot in honor of our opening. Aimee and I hung the new flag by the sign this morning.....would have made a funny video, as we were too short, so I stood on a chair, which came close to dumping me into the shrubs....but it is up!
It has been a busy week....Matt unloaded 240 bags of compost, we painted all the bird houses on the buildings, hung some new curtains, replaces many outside lights with new energy efficient LED lights.....on, and on.....
I just asked Matt if we are ready, and he said "I think so".....but he is still painting, and the kitchen looks like his private work shop!

Anyhow, it is Good Friday, there is a full moon tonight, and we are ready (we hope) for a great year! So, come see us! Even if you do not stay with us, stop in a say Hi!

Happy Easter all, Sue
